All my favorite yogurts are organic. They are made in small batches from organic farms.
The cows feed on grass, hay, grains, which produces milk that is better for your heart and tastes better. The grass on which they graze has not been treated with chemicals. The cows have not been treated with hormones or stimulants.
The milk is pasteurized, but not homogenized so the cream is on top. The taste is superb and superior.
I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes.
The best things and best people rise out of their separateness; I’m against a homogenized society because I want the cream to rise.
— Robert Frost
I eat half a cup of yogurt every day.
If eaten sans sugar, yogurt is probiotic, which means it replaces the good bacteria in your intestines.
I add ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Cinnamon has been give credit for lowering the cholesterol and acting as a natural inflammatory. After eating ½ teaspoon of cinnamon every day for several months, my blood test revealed that my triglycerides had taken a dive.
The yogurt brands I like are:
- Maple Leaf Creamery
- Hawthorne
- Erivan
- Butterworks
I buy them at Fairway, Gourmet Garage, Whole Foods and Farmers Markets.

I also like to add cinnamon to plain yogurt, and either cut – up fruit or chopped veggies. Delicious, & healthy!

What about cinnamon in coffee grounds before you brew the coffee?
karen Lee says
Dear Sarah,
Just going on my instinct I think it is best to have cinnamon not in coffee for health reasons.
To season the coffee just for fun is fine.
I will cover other ways to have cinnamon in your diet in a future blog.

I hope I can find these in my local markets. Thank you Karen!

Hi Samantha,
Just ask your store manager and they might be able to order one of these brands for you. A picture always helps. Let me know if it works out.

I LOVE yogurt. I put it in practically everything I cook: instead of creme fraiche, on blinis topped with salmon roe as Hors-d’oeuvres (less calories), I cut the mayonnaise for tuna salad with yogurt (again, less calories), I put a Tb of yogurt into a bowl of soup, especially chicken soup, I add a Tb of yogurt to my cooked rice before serving it, also in my coral lentil stew cooked with caramelized red onions, leeks, garlic, tumeric and cumin,
on and on. I can’t get the brands you recommend, Karen, but we do have pretty good yogurts here in France! Amities, Sigun.
